WHAT ABOUT JESUS?

WHAT DOES HE MEAN TO ME?

I’m sure living in America you’ve heard the name Jesus Christ. Maybe you’ve heard the name thrown around and used in a negative way. Maybe you’ve heard the name in your home or at your school. So who is this Jesus you’ve heard about?

You see, the story begins way back in the first book of the Bible (Genesis) when Adam and Eve lived in a world without sin. That’s right- No one had sinned yet! God cared for and loved Adam and Eve, but when tempted by sin, they both fell for it. From that point on, everyone sinned. Sin created a big problem because the penalty for sin is eternal death, a life without God. But, God had a plan.

That’s where Jesus comes in. God selected the only person who had never sinned to pay the price for our sin- Jesus. So Jesus was born and lived his life for 30 years, giving us a great example to follow. Then he started telling people about God and how they could have eternal life (heaven). When he was about 33 years old, Jesus was crucified on a cross, not for his own sin because he had never sinned, but for OUR sins. He was punished instead of us. After three days, Jesus rose from the dead, beating death! By taking on that punishment, he paid our sin debt. Jesus made a way for us to have eternal life again. If you want to live your life for Jesus while you’re here on earth, and you want eternal life when you die, here is the plan:

  • ACCEPT: Accept that you are a sinner. “We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
  • BELIEVE: Believe that Jesus died to save you from your sin. “For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16; “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” Romans 6:23
  • COMMIT: Commit your life to Jesus. As you learn more about Jesus by reading the Bible and going to Bible study, you will be able to follow his life’s example. Try to treat people like Jesus treated people–With lots of love.

Here is a quick and easy prayer to get you started:

Dear God, I know I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I now turn from my sins and ask You into my life to be my Savior and Lord. Please forgive my sins and give me Your gift of eternal life. Thank you for dying for me, saving me and changing my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once you become a Christian, the next step is to tell someone! Find a Christian friend, parent or teacher and let them know about the amazing decision you made! If you’re not already a part of a church, find one. We would love to have you join ours!

The next step would be to follow through with Baptism. Baptism is your way of showing everyone else the decision you’ve made to follow Jesus. You will be submerged in water for a couple seconds (like a bath tub). Before you go under water, you represent your “old” life- the life when you didn’t know Jesus. When you come up from the water, you represent your “new” life- you have died to your old life and now are going to live in Jesus!

AND WHAT ABOUT AFTER THAT?

Now you are on a life-long journey to be more like Jesus Christ, living your life to glorify Him and telling others about how they too can have eternal life through Jesus. So how do you find out how to live like Jesus? You go to worship and Bible study and you begin to pray and read the Bible. Don’t have a Bible? We would love to give you one- FREE! Just see Niki when you visit.
